The railway ‘ribbons of steel’ run from coast to coast, just as they did in 1885. Before cars and air travel, the railway connected Canadians to each other. Today?s trains carry our dream car to the dealership or the latest pair of Nikes to Footlocker.
I’ll bet you never considered trains as the way you get your favourite shoes. Probably the only time you think of trains is when they block the intersection just before you get home from a long day at school.
Engineers and conductors operate the trains. Those who maintain locomotives and railcars or assemble trains work in mechanic shops and railyards. Others use specialized equipment to build and maintain tracks, bridges and signaling.
Whether you are skilled in working with your hands or you have wanderlust, the rail industry has a job for you.
