Careers in Road

truck

There’s a saying: “If you got it, a truck brought it.” Whether it’s a skateboard from the US, a DVD from China, gasoline from a local refinery, or clothes at the mall — all were delivered to a store by a truck. Whether it’s deliveries like these or auto parts for assembly lines and factories across the continent, trucks keep Canada moving.

Trucks are pretty complex, too. Many have GPS tracking and onboard computers. Many trucks are small, doing deliveries within cities. Others are 75 feet long, have 18 tires, and routinely go 4,500 kilometers on a one-way trip.

Careers in trucking require a high level of skill and training, and pay good wages and benefits. Good drivers are in big demand and if you fit the bill, it’s a stable safe career. Driving jobs are also found with bus, courier and transit companies, along with support positions such as dispatchers and mechanics.
