Work outdoors, sleep away from home at times
So does working around materials that reach up to 5000 degrees Fahrenheit and being part of a “gang” sound like a blast? Well that’s just what an Assistant Thermite Welder does.
An Assistant Thermite Welder is responsible for assisting a “production gang” in welding rail ends together using a method of extreme temperature heating called thermite welding. Not only do you have to be in great shape to do this but you also have to be an excellent multitasker. Handling all kinds of tools, recording appropriate information, checking thermite charges, and assisting in track maintenance are all part of a day’s work. And just think of the tan you’ll get from all that heat!
