Work Involved

When a new ship weathered by the high seas comes into port they need a little TLC. Eagerly awaiting its arrival is a Boarding Agent, ready to take on whatever a ship needs from customs clearance to buyers for cargo.

A Boarding Agent works with officials, buyers, sellers and owners to get a ship in and out as fast and smoothly as possible. Like being an assistant to a movie star sometimes it can be tough, but it’s big business shipping not scrounging for a grande, half-sweet, soy peppermint latté. Every ship brings new challenges and the thrill comes from working with all kinds of cargo and meeting fascinating people from all over the globe.
