Work Involved

The kid listens to the Captain as he gets ready to board a ship for the first time. He’s as green around the gills as they come. Fresh out of high school the kid nervously bites the inside of his cheek.

Now this Deck Hand is about to board a gigantic freighter that seems to block out the sun and take a trip to the other side of the world. On his adventure he will work his fingers to the bone cleaning, painting, repairing lines and if lucky, getting to hold the wheel of this magnificent ship. One day this Deck Hand may become an Officer and take command, but today he?s learning how to be a sailor. All he knows right now, through the excitement of leaving his home for a far away land, is that when you?re young, being a Deck Hand is a ticket to bigger and better things.
