Long periods of time at sea, but a great chance to experience many destinations
As water sprays over the deck onto his crew, the Deck Officer takes command of the situation. His Captain is sick and it’s up to him to get the ship to safety. With the pressure on, he steers the ship out of the storm while he barks orders to his engine room for more power.
Deck Officers are experienced and have done it all, from working in the engine room greasing machinery, to swabbing the deck and lifting heavy cargo, to navigating with a map and a radar screen. Deck Officers started as rookie crew members and through persistence and determination have been promoted. They supervise the crew and delegate the work that needs to be done but most importantly, Deck Officers hope to become Captains.
