Locomotive Engineer Lifestyle

Trains run 24/7, irregular hours; often sleep away from home

Work Involved

Deep in the Rocky Mountains a puff of exhaust billows from a train rising to the familiar beat that every child knows as “chugga chugga”. This enormous machine flows through the land like the pulse of an artery keeping our country alive. The man or woman at the front controls one of the world?s largest ground vehicles.

A Locomotive Engineer sits in the cab of the train and takes it on its course. She is in charge of everything including speed, fuel, temperature and brakes and has to keep all of these things out of the red. One mistake could spell disaster for people and cargo. They have to be drivers and leaders all rolled into one, but the fun comes when every sunrise gives a new challenge on-board the Engineer?s super-sized childhood toy.
