Work Involved

Marine terminals are busy places. All day and all night ships are bringing in the next “must-have’s” for the season. As a Ship Planner your job is to make sure that everything onboard a container ship is properly stored and placed. You must know how much a ship can carry, the proper weight distribution so that it doesn’t sink, and how on earth you’re going to get all those containers in there!

Be it rain or shine, China or Canada, a Ship Planner coordinates the loading or unloading of massive amounts of cargo communicating with Terminal Operators, Longshoreman, and many other staff. With amazing organizational skills you are responsible for helping cargo find its right destination because one mistake can send your running shoes to a different city and leave you with someone else’s boxer shorts!
