Trains run 24/7, work alone or on a team, outdoors in an assigned region
So you’re at a railway crossing waiting for a train to pass by when you think: “What would happen if those lights, bells, and giant pole weren’t there?” Chaos? Confusion? Major accidents? Well now you know how important the job of Signals and Communications Maintainer (SCM) is.
Just like making sure traffic lights are working properly when we’re driving our cars, SCM’s have similar responsibilities on railways. They are in charge of the signs and equipment you see at crossings, stations, and all other areas. You could be replacing the electrical components of a failed power source, painting signs to direct trains and the public, or up on a pole troubleshooting problems. Whatever the job may be, you are an important part of the railway crew.
